KP Labs Raises €4.42M for In-Orbit AI

Polish space technology company KP Labs has raised €4.42 million to expand AI systems that process satellite data directly in orbit rather than sending every raw observation back to Earth.

What happened

The financing, equivalent to roughly PLN 19.4 million, came from Momentum Capital Partners. KP Labs develops onboard processing hardware, firmware and machine-learning software for spacecraft. Its technology is designed to analyse images and sensor data aboard satellites, allowing operators to transmit selected or processed information instead of full raw datasets. The company previously operated the Intuition-1 Earth-observation satellite from 2023 to 2026 and has worked with organisations including the European Space Agency, NASA and established satellite manufacturers.

Why it matters

Satellite constellations generate huge amounts of data, while downlink bandwidth, energy and ground-station access remain constrained. Edge processing can reduce the amount of information that must be transmitted and speed up access to useful insights for applications such as disaster response, environmental monitoring and security.

The bigger picture

As satellites become more autonomous, onboard AI could evolve into a standard capability rather than a niche feature. KP Labs is targeting that infrastructure layer. Reliability, radiation tolerance and software updateability will determine whether in-orbit AI scales commercially.
