Kairos Gets $100M for Google Nuclear Reactor
Samsung C&T is providing up to $100 million in investment and engineering support for Kairos Power's demonstration reactor.

Kairos Power is adding both capital and construction expertise as it works toward a demonstration reactor linked to future clean-power demand from Google.
What happened
Samsung C&T will provide Kairos with up to $100 million in investment and engineering services for a planned 50MW demonstration reactor.
Roughly $70 million is expected to come as equity investment, with the remainder represented by engineering support. Kairos is targeting completion by 2030.
The company is developing advanced nuclear reactors that use a fluoride-salt cooling system rather than the conventional light-water design used by most existing plants.
Why it matters
The deal gives Kairos more than financing. Large nuclear projects depend heavily on engineering, procurement and construction capability, so bringing in an experienced industrial partner can reduce execution risk.
The timing also matters. AI data centres are creating demand for large volumes of reliable, around-the-clock electricity. Nuclear power is increasingly attractive to technology companies because it can supply firm low-carbon power without depending on weather conditions.
The bigger picture
Big Tech's energy problem is becoming a financing catalyst for advanced nuclear. Companies including Google are effectively helping create early demand for technologies that historically struggled to secure commercial customers before full deployment. If demonstration projects work, AI-related power demand could accelerate a broader nuclear supply chain rather than simply adding more conventional generation.
