AI data centres are increasingly limited not by demand for compute, but by the amount of electricity that can be delivered to a site. Intrinsic Power has completed the first close of a seed round for technology designed to use existing power infrastructure more intelligently.
What happened
Kyocera Ventures, Drive Catalyst, Boost VC and RPV Global participated in the seed financing. The amount was not disclosed.
Intrinsic Power’s platform monitors electrical conditions and coordinates assets such as battery storage, controllable loads, utility connections and distributed energy resources across buildings or campuses. The goal is to help operators manage peaks, respond to grid constraints and extract more usable capacity from infrastructure already in place.
Why it matters
A data-centre project may have land, customers and computing equipment but still wait years for a larger grid connection. Software cannot create unlimited electricity, but it may help operators shift demand, use storage and coordinate local generation more effectively.
The commercial value will depend on how much additional usable capacity the system can deliver, how safely it interacts with critical infrastructure and whether utilities recognise its operating model.
The bigger picture
The AI infrastructure boom is creating a new category of power-management companies. Some build generation, others provide batteries, and companies like Intrinsic Power focus on orchestration.
