Intermezzo raised $10M from Crosslink Capital, UKG Ventures, CloudPay, Character Capital, Behind Genius Ventures and angel investors. Founded by veterans of Intuit and global workforce technology, the startup is building an AI-native payroll infrastructure platform for human-capital-management companies operating across multiple countries.
Why it matters
International payroll requires country-specific tax calculations, statutory deductions, filings and compliance logic. Much of that knowledge still lives in spreadsheets, documents and individual teams. Automating the infrastructure layer could make it easier for software platforms to offer payroll globally without assembling a fragmented network of local providers.
The bigger picture
AI is moving into back-office systems where correctness matters more than conversational fluency. Payroll is a good example of a workflow where domain rules, automation and auditability can create a more durable product moat than a generic assistant.
