iGii Secures €26.5M for Carbon Nanomaterials

Advanced materials often look impressive in the laboratory but struggle to cross the gap into repeatable industrial production. Scotland-based iGii has secured €26.5 million to commercialise its proprietary carbon nanomaterial, Gii.

What happened

The financing package combines a roughly £11.7 million Series B led by the Scottish National Investment Bank with £11 million of support from Scottish Enterprise.

PXN Ventures and Archangels also participated.

The capital will be used to scale production and commercial adoption of Gii across industrial applications.

Why it matters

Carbon nanomaterials can potentially improve conductivity, sensing, strength and other properties across electronics and engineered products.

The commercial challenge is producing consistent material at enough volume and cost for manufacturers to adopt it reliably.

The bigger picture

Deep-tech investors are increasingly focusing on the manufacturing step rather than only scientific novelty. Europe has strong university and materials research, but scaling physical technologies requires expensive facilities, process engineering and long customer qualification cycles.

iGii's financing is therefore as much about industrialisation as invention. If the company can prove repeatable large-scale production, it could turn a specialist material into a platform used across multiple sectors rather than remaining a research-stage technology.
