ID Finance Secures €545M Financing

ID Finance has secured a €545 million debt-and-equity package to expand Plazo, its consumer finance application in Spain. The transaction is substantial, but it is not a €545 million venture-equity round.

What happened

Barcelona-based ID Finance announced financing involving Spice Expeditions, WashU, Kingsway Capital and i80 Group. The company did not disclose the allocation between debt and equity. Proceeds will support Plazo, which combines payment accounts, shopping rewards, consumer credit and buy-now-pay-later features. ID Finance says Plazo's credit portfolio tripled during 2025 and that the business reached profitability. Those growth and profit figures are company-reported, and the financing announcement does not provide an independently verified breakdown of loan-book performance. Plazo has also introduced Turrón, a flexible-payment product. Unlike pure software startups, a consumer lender needs access to credit facilities to fund loans in addition to capital for product development, hiring and compliance.

Why it matters

The structure of the financing matters as much as its size. Debt can support growth in outstanding loans, while equity can absorb development costs and losses, but the two have different risks and return expectations. Combining lending and everyday financial services could help Plazo retain customers and increase usage, provided underwriting remains disciplined.

The bigger picture

Fintech investors are again backing integrated consumer-credit businesses, but growth is only durable when funding costs, defaults and collections remain manageable. The key indicators for Plazo will be credit quality, profitability after funding costs and repeat customer engagement—not the headline financing figure alone.
