HIVE Secures $129M for Sovereign AI Compute
HIVE's BUZZ HPC subsidiary secures an approximately $129 million equipment-backed credit facility for a sovereign AI GPU deployment.

AI infrastructure operators are financing expensive accelerators in ways that resemble traditional asset-backed lending. HIVE's latest deal is another example of that shift.
What happened
HIVE Digital Technologies, through its BUZZ HPC operations, signed a financing arrangement for approximately $129 million at a fixed interest rate of 9% and roughly 80% loan-to-cost.
The credit facility will help fund Nvidia GB200 NVL72 systems and related infrastructure for a previously announced multi-year sovereign AI customer agreement associated with Cohere. It is equipment-backed debt, not an equity funding round.
The announced credit arrangement does not mean the company has received unrestricted cash or that every GPU has already been installed. Equipment deployment, customer service delivery and financing obligations remain important.
Why it matters
Modern AI compute infrastructure can require large upfront capital spending, while customer payments occur over time. A loan secured against equipment and supported by expected contract revenue can help bridge that timing gap.
The financing also introduces repayment and residual-value risks. Accelerator hardware can become less competitive as new generations arrive, and utilisation must remain high enough to support operating and financing costs.
The bigger picture
Demand for AI infrastructure is bringing specialised lenders and structured financing into the sector. The strongest operators will need to manage both technical performance and long-term asset economics.
