Hesai Launches Kosmo Spatial AI Camera

Hesai has launched Kosmo, a three-dimensional sensing camera designed to capture the physical-world data needed to train and operate more capable robots.

What happened

The Chinese sensor company says Kosmo combines lidar with conventional cameras to create detailed spatial representations for robotics developers. Hesai is positioning the product as a data-collection tool for humanoid and general-purpose robotics companies and says it has signed agreements with Chinese robotics developers to use the system. The company is also developing robotic actuators that convert electrical power into motion, extending its product ambitions beyond sensing. Commercial revenue, pricing and broad adoption figures for Kosmo have not yet been disclosed.

Why it matters

Robotics foundation models need large volumes of three-dimensional and interaction data that cannot be sourced from the internet in the same way as text and images. High-quality spatial sensing can improve both training data and real-time perception.

The bigger picture

Hesai is attempting to become an infrastructure supplier to physical AI rather than a complete robot manufacturer. If robotics scales, component providers spanning sensing, actuation and data capture may capture significant value without competing directly in the end-product market.
