Advanced geothermal has a simple problem with a difficult engineering answer: the hotter and deeper the resource, the harder it is for drilling equipment to survive.

What happened

Hephae Energy Technology raised a $17.8M Series A co-led by Susquehanna Sustainable Investments and Underground Ventures.

The company develops high-temperature drilling systems designed for geothermal environments where conventional downhole electronics struggle.

The round brings total funding to about $24.7M and is intended to support further commercialisation of the technology.

Next-generation geothermal could provide reliable low-carbon power, but reaching hotter rock creates severe equipment constraints.
