Harness Adds AI Security to Kong Gateway
Harness and Kong are combining AI asset discovery, traffic monitoring and runtime protection inside an enterprise gateway.
AI gateways are becoming a central checkpoint between enterprise applications and the growing number of models, agents and tools they use.
What happened
Harness integrated AI discovery and protection capabilities into Kong AI Gateway.
The combined system can inventory models, agents, MCP servers and tools while monitoring AI traffic for potential security threats. It gives teams a shared view of the AI components operating across their applications.
Why it matters
Companies often adopt AI through multiple teams and vendors, making it difficult to know which models are connected to which data and tools. This creates a form of shadow infrastructure that traditional application-security products may not fully recognise.
Discovery helps establish what exists, while gateway-level monitoring creates a place to apply consistent controls as requests move between applications and AI systems.
The bigger picture
API gateways became important because modern software depends on many services communicating with one another. AI gateways may play a similar role for models and agents, evolving into control points for routing, cost management, observability and security.
