Group14 adds €150 million for silicon battery-material capacity

A new investor funded the Series D extension as Group14 selected Sagunto for an initial 10 GWh manufacturing module.

Group14 adds €150 million for silicon battery-material capacity

A battery-material business has to scale chemistry and factories together. Group14’s €150 million Series D extension will help expand its silicon-material manufacturing footprint into Europe.

What happened

The 29 October equity financing came from a new, undisclosed investor and took the Series D above $665 million. Group14 selected Sagunto, Spain, for its next industrial-scale module, with an initial capacity equivalent to 10 GWh of batteries.

The company produces SCC55 silicon battery material. Its planned manufacturing footprint also includes an operating site scaling in Korea and US capacity expected to begin production in the first half of 2027.

Why it matters

Silicon-based battery materials are intended to improve performance, but customers also need consistent quality, dependable volumes and supply-chain access. European production could help Group14 serve that demand closer to regional battery manufacturers.

The 10 GWh figure describes intended material-production capacity in battery-energy terms; it is not electricity generation or batteries already sold.

The bigger picture

The next challenge is industrial execution: constructing the facility, qualifying its output and securing customer demand. The extension finances a manufacturing expansion whose commercial value will emerge as production comes online.
