Gritt Raises $32M for Solar-Construction Robots
Gritt emerged from stealth with $32 million to automate the unloading and positioning of heavy solar panels on construction sites.

Solar panels are getting cheaper, but installing millions of them remains slow, physical work. Gritt wants robots to remove that deployment bottleneck.
What happened
Gritt emerged from stealth after raising a $26 million Series A led by Obvious Ventures, bringing its total funding to $32 million. Union Square Ventures and Active Impact Investments also participated.
The company combines commercially available construction vehicles and robotic arms with its own machine-vision and control software. Its first systems unload, move and position heavy solar panels on large outdoor sites.
Gritt says it has contracts connected with 2.8 gigawatts of solar installations over the next 18 months. Its deployment pipeline and productivity improvements are company-reported and still need to be demonstrated across more sites.
Why it matters
Construction sites are far less predictable than factories. Terrain, weather, dust and changing layouts make automation difficult, while remote solar projects can struggle to attract enough workers.
Gritt’s approach avoids building an entirely proprietary robot. Instead, it adds an intelligence layer to equipment that contractors already understand and can maintain. If that system works reliably, it could reduce both capital requirements and the time needed to deploy physical AI.
The bigger picture
The opportunity in robotics is expanding beyond warehouses and manufacturing lines into energy, agriculture and construction. These markets need machines that can adapt to messy environments rather than repeat one perfectly controlled motion. Solar provides Gritt with a focused first use case, but the larger test is whether its software can transfer to other forms of infrastructure work.
