Google Launches Offline AI Meeting Assistant
Google has launched a local-first meeting assistant that can transcribe and query workplace information offline.

Enterprise AI is beginning to split between cloud-scale models and smaller systems designed to run locally.
What happened
Google released AI Edge Foresight, a Mac application for meeting transcription and workplace knowledge retrieval.
The app can run entirely offline using an on-device model and lets users query meetings and uploaded documents through a Gemma-powered assistant.
Why it matters
Many companies like the productivity benefits of AI meeting tools but remain concerned about sending sensitive conversations and internal documents to cloud services.
Local inference changes that trade-off. Smaller models can handle focused tasks such as transcription, retrieval and summarisation without requiring every piece of data to leave the device.
The bigger picture
The future enterprise AI stack may combine large cloud models for complex reasoning with smaller local models for privacy-sensitive or high-frequency tasks.
Google's launch also puts pressure on startups in the meeting-assistant category. As foundational-model companies move into applications, independent products will need stronger workflow, collaboration or distribution advantages rather than relying only on model capability.
