Google expands Guided Learning and clarifies school AI controls
Bringing AI into a classroom also means deciding who controls access.

Bringing AI into a classroom also means deciding who controls access.
What happened
Google has launched Guided Learning globally in Classroom and announced a Search pilot for selected US schools.
It also announced that specified services would be off by default for K–12 accounts until administrators enable them.
Follow-up reporting published on 4 November places Google's clarification on 3 November: Search and Gemini have separate controls. The original suggestion that schools must accept Gemini to retain Search should not be presented without that clarification.
Why it matters
Default settings affect which tools students can use and what administrators need to enable. Separate controls for Search and Gemini give schools a different choice from an all-or-nothing arrangement.
The bigger picture
The product launch and the access-policy clarification belong in the same account. Coverage that repeats the original loss-of-Search framing without the clarification would leave readers with an incomplete description of the controls.
