Gemini Starts Calling Businesses for Users
Google is testing a Gemini feature that can place phone calls, wait on hold and handle routine service requests on a user's behalf.

Google is pushing Gemini beyond chat by giving it the ability to make real phone calls on behalf of users.
What happened
The company began testing Call for Me for eligible US Pixel users. The agent can place calls to businesses, navigate phone menus, wait on hold, check inventory, make reservations, reschedule appointments and place items on hold.
Users can follow the interaction through a live transcript and take over the call when necessary.
Why it matters
Many consumer tasks still cannot be completed through an API or website. Restaurants, medical offices, local shops and service businesses often depend on phone calls for routine transactions.
Giving an AI agent the ability to operate through voice lets it interact with that offline layer of the economy without requiring businesses to integrate new software.
The bigger picture
Consumer AI is moving from information retrieval toward action. The most useful assistants may eventually combine browsing, messaging, payments and voice calls to complete multi-step tasks across systems that were never designed for automation.
