Gates grant advances Precisio's bacterial-vaginosis therapy
New grant funding will move Precisio Biotix's engineered lysins for bacterial vaginosis into preclinical development.

What happened
Precisio Biotix received additional Gates Foundation funding to select a lead candidate and begin preclinical development of engineered lysins targeting bacteria associated with bacterial vaginosis. The corresponding grant is listed at $1,998,659.
Why it matters
Bacterial vaginosis frequently returns after antibiotic treatment. Precisio is developing targeted antimicrobials intended to attack Gardnerella, including bacteria protected by biofilms, while preserving beneficial bacteria.
The bigger picture
The programme remains preclinical. Its selectivity, safety and effectiveness have not been established in patients, so the funding should be understood as support for development rather than evidence of a successful treatment.
