FTC clears Musk’s Mesh acquisition plan
The FTC expedited antitrust review for Elon Musk’s potential acquisition of Mesh Optical Technologies, a data-centre communications startup.

AI data centres need faster and more efficient machine-to-machine communication. Mesh Optical Technologies sits in that infrastructure layer, making its potential acquisition a notable AI compute signal.
What happened
The FTC expedited antitrust review for Elon Musk’s potential acquisition of Mesh Optical Technologies, a startup founded by three former SpaceX engineers.
Mesh develops hardware for fast data-centre communications and came out of stealth in February with a $50M Series A led by Thrive Capital.
Why it matters
This is a strong AI infrastructure and data-centre signal.
Optical communication hardware matters because AI workloads depend on moving huge amounts of data between machines quickly and efficiently. Faster interconnects can improve the performance and economics of large-scale compute clusters.
The bigger picture
The AI infrastructure race is not only about GPUs. Networking, power, cooling and data movement are becoming strategic layers as companies build larger and more specialised compute systems.
