Flex Buys EPC Power for AI Data Centres

Flex is acquiring EPC Power to strengthen power-conversion capacity for AI data centres, grid storage and microgrids.

Flex Buys EPC Power for AI Data Centres

AI infrastructure is not only a GPU story. The power systems behind the racks are becoming just as strategic.

What happened

Flex agreed to acquire EPC Power for $4.4B. EPC Power builds software-defined power-conversion systems used across data centres, grid storage and microgrids, including architectures designed for high-density AI facilities.

The deal gives Flex a stronger position in the electrical layer that sits between the grid, energy storage and increasingly power-hungry compute infrastructure.

Why it matters

AI data centres are pushing traditional electrical systems harder. As racks become denser and workloads become more volatile, operators need power-conversion equipment that can handle higher loads, cleaner delivery and better integration with storage.

That makes companies like EPC Power more strategically valuable. The bottleneck is no longer just buying enough chips; it is getting enough reliable electricity into the building and through the hardware stack safely.

The bigger picture

AI infrastructure is turning into an industrial supply-chain race. Power electronics, substations, cooling, batteries and grid connections are becoming core parts of the AI buildout. Flex buying EPC Power shows that the next wave of AI infrastructure M&A may happen far below the application layer.
