Firehawk Defense Raises $150M Series D

Rocket-propulsion manufacturer Firehawk Defense raises more than $150 million to expand domestic solid-rocket-motor production.

Firehawk Defense Raises $150M Series D

Solid-rocket-motor manufacturing is becoming a strategic bottleneck as defence customers seek more resilient supplies of propulsion components. Firehawk Defense has raised new growth capital to expand its production system.

What happened

US-based Firehawk Defense closed a Series D exceeding $150 million at a valuation above $1.4 billion. Advent International and Rochefort Asset Management co-led the financing.

Firehawk uses a manufacturing process based on thermoplastic solid propellants. Its approach aims to make propellant components more quickly and flexibly than some conventional methods, which can require extended casting and curing cycles.

The company intends to expand production facilities in Oklahoma and Mississippi and has outlined ambitious output targets for 2027. It also has an industrial partnership with General Dynamics. Future production targets are not completed orders or demonstrated manufacturing volumes.

Why it matters

Defence suppliers need to make propulsion components consistently, safely and in quantities that respond to changing demand. Manufacturing innovation may be valuable even when the final missile or rocket system is developed elsewhere.

However, reducing production time in demonstrations does not eliminate military qualification, quality control, safety or customer acceptance requirements. Achieving competitive unit costs and high output reliably will require continued industrial execution.

The bigger picture

Venture investment in defence technology increasingly extends to production processes and specialist component suppliers. Firehawk's financing illustrates the demand for domestic industrial capacity, while actual delivery performance will determine how much of that potential becomes commercial revenue.
