Finastra Adds AI to Payment Repair

Finastra adds AI recommendations to the manual work of diagnosing and correcting payment exceptions.

Finastra Adds AI to Payment Repair

Finastra is applying AI to one of banking's less visible operational bottlenecks: failed or incomplete payments that require manual repair.

What happened

The company launched Repair Recommendations inside its OperatorAssist platform.

The feature detects payment discrepancies, analyses likely causes and recommends corrections. Suggested fixes are checked against payment-network rules including Swift, Fedwire, SEPA and UPI.

Execution still requires human approval rather than allowing the system to make changes autonomously.

Why it matters

Payment exceptions create expensive manual work for banks because staff have to identify what went wrong, understand the relevant network rules and correct the transaction.

AI can reduce that workload by narrowing the problem and proposing a compliant fix while keeping a human in control of the final action.

That is a practical adoption path for AI in regulated financial operations, where full autonomy may be difficult to justify.

The bigger picture

Enterprise AI may spread fastest through constrained workflows rather than dramatic replacement of entire jobs.

Financial institutions have thousands of repetitive operational processes where software can analyse, recommend and document while a person retains approval authority.

That hybrid model could become the default architecture for AI in regulated industries.
