AI coding has become one of the fastest-commercialising parts of generative AI, and investors are still pushing valuations sharply higher. Factory has raised $200 million at a $5 billion valuation, only months after being valued at $1.5 billion.

Factory builds AI agents for enterprise software teams. Its tools are designed to help engineers write, test, maintain and update code across larger development workflows rather than act only as autocomplete assistants.

The new financing includes backing from Blackstone, Khosla Ventures, Sequoia and Insight Partners. The valuation increase is particularly notable because Factory was valued at roughly $1.5 billion in April.

Why it matters

The coding-agent market is moving beyond individual developer productivity. Large companies want AI systems that can understand repositories, work across tickets and tests, and participate in longer software-development processes.
