eXp Opens Real Estate Data to AI Agents

eXp Realty is opening its platform data to external AI assistants through MCP rather than building another proprietary chatbot.

eXp Opens Real Estate Data to AI Agents

Enterprise AI strategy is starting to shift from building proprietary assistants toward making existing systems usable by whichever agent a customer prefers.

What happened

eXp Realty unveiled an MCP-first strategy that allows agents to connect external AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude directly to eXp data.

The connection layer can expose information including leads, transactions, production metrics and CRM records while keeping access governed by the company's underlying systems.

Rather than requiring agents to use a single eXp-built chatbot, the company is positioning its data and workflows as infrastructure that multiple AI systems can access.

Why it matters

Model Context Protocol is emerging as a standard way for AI agents to connect with tools and business data.

If that approach becomes common, enterprise software companies may no longer need to win by owning the assistant interface. Their advantage could instead come from having structured data, reliable permissions and workflows that agents can use safely.

The bigger picture

Enterprise AI may become more modular.

Users could choose their preferred model or agent while software vendors focus on exposing trusted actions and information underneath.

eXp's move is an early example of that architecture in real estate, where the strategic asset is not the chatbot itself but the data and permissions that let an agent act inside the business.
