Exein Raises $270M for Physical AI Security
Italian cybersecurity company Exein has raised $270 million at a $1.7 billion valuation as embedded security becomes a bigger priority for connected devices and physical AI.

As AI moves from software into vehicles, robots, industrial machines and connected devices, the security problem is becoming physical. Exein has raised $270 million at a $1.7 billion valuation to scale security technology built directly into those systems.
What happened
Rome-based Exein raised the round led by Headline, becoming a new European cybersecurity unicorn. The company develops embedded runtime security designed to operate inside connected devices rather than only protecting the cloud or network around them.
Exein says its technology is already present across more than 2 billion devices spanning industrial systems, automotive products, healthcare equipment, semiconductors and aerospace. It is also developing a foundation model focused on physical-AI security.
Why it matters
Connected devices increasingly run complex software and AI models while controlling real-world systems. That expands the attack surface beyond laptops and servers: a compromised robot, vehicle or industrial controller can create physical consequences.
Embedding protection inside the device can give security teams visibility and control closer to where malicious behaviour actually happens.
The bigger picture
Cybersecurity investment is following AI into the physical world. As autonomous machines proliferate, security is likely to become a core infrastructure layer for robotics, mobility and industrial AI rather than an add-on bought after deployment.
Exein's round shows investors expect that market to become large enough to support specialist security platforms at significant scale.
