French accounting platform Dougs has raised €50 million to accelerate automation across small-business accounting and financial management.
What happened
The investment came from Expedition Growth Capital. Dougs combines software with regulated professional accountants, serving small businesses that need bookkeeping, tax and financial reporting support. The company reports around 50,000 customers and says it is profitable. The new capital will support product development and deeper use of AI across document processing, reconciliation, accounting workflows and customer support. Dougs' model is not to remove accountants entirely, but to automate repeatable work while preserving professional oversight for judgement-heavy or regulated tasks.
Why it matters
Accounting is well suited to automation because much of the work involves structured documents, classification, reconciliation and rule-based processes. At the same time, customers still need accountable professionals for complex tax and financial decisions. A hybrid model can therefore capture productivity gains without asking AI to operate unsupervised in high-risk situations.
The bigger picture
The round reflects a broader shift from software that assists accountants toward platforms that automate larger parts of the accounting workflow. Dougs' advantage will depend on how effectively it combines regulated expertise, workflow data and AI while maintaining accuracy and trust.
