Ditto uses AI to replace swiping

Consumer AI is starting to move from content generation into real-world coordination. Dating is a high-friction place to test that shift.

What happened

Ditto is building an AI-led dating experience without traditional swiping.

Users text with an AI matchmaker, and the service proposes one match each Wednesday with a suggested time and place. The company has around 150,000 signups and previously raised a $9.2M seed round.

Why it matters

Dating apps have trained users to swipe through endless profiles, but that model has also created fatigue. Ditto is testing a different interface: fewer choices, more curation and an AI assistant that acts more like a coordinator than a search bar.

The challenge is trust. Dating is not like recommending a playlist or summarising an email. The product has to make users comfortable enough to meet someone offline, which means the AI layer must feel useful without feeling creepy or overbearing.

The bigger picture

This is part of a broader consumer-AI experiment: replacing feeds and filters with agents that make decisions or narrow choices for users. If that works in dating, similar models could appear in travel, events, shopping and local discovery. If it fails, it may show where human judgment still matters most.
