Deezer is preparing a user setting that will let listeners remove AI-generated music from search results and recommendations.
What happened
The streaming service says it expects to launch the filter before year-end. Deezer introduced AI-music detection technology previously and reports that AI-generated tracks have risen from around 10% of daily uploads to more than half. The company's approach goes beyond disclosure by allowing users to exclude synthetic tracks from parts of their listening experience. Other services are experimenting with labels, monetisation restrictions and different policies for AI-generated content.
Why it matters
Generative AI has made music production dramatically cheaper and faster, creating an abundance problem for streaming platforms. Recommendation systems must decide how to rank huge volumes of synthetic content without overwhelming listeners or distorting royalty economics.
The bigger picture
Deezer's filter creates an early test of whether users actually want separate human- and AI-generated media experiences. The wider industry will need durable standards for provenance, labelling and compensation as synthetic content becomes normal in digital distribution.
