Databricks Buys Spreadsheet Startup Row Zero
Databricks has acquired Row Zero, bringing a high-scale spreadsheet interface closer to its data and AI platform.

Databricks is moving closer to the everyday business user by acquiring cloud spreadsheet startup Row Zero.
What happened
Row Zero builds a spreadsheet interface designed to work with datasets larger than the limits of conventional spreadsheet tools. Databricks' own finance team had been using the product alongside its Genie AI agent before the acquisition.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Why it matters
Databricks is strongest in the infrastructure layer, where engineers and data teams manage large datasets and AI workloads. But many business users still prefer familiar spreadsheet interfaces for analysis and decision-making.
Owning a spreadsheet product could help Databricks bring its data platform closer to finance, operations and other non-technical teams.
The bigger picture
Enterprise AI platforms are increasingly competing to control both the backend and the interface. The long-term prize may not be simply storing and processing corporate data, but also owning the environment where employees query, analyse and act on that data.
