Cohere opens C$7 billion Series E for sovereign enterprise AI

Schwarz Group leads the round, with Canada and NVIDIA participating; the amount secured at the initial close remains undisclosed.

Cohere opens C$7 billion Series E for sovereign enterprise AI

Control over where AI runs and who governs it is becoming a financing proposition. Cohere’s initial Series E close targets up to C$7 billion, with enterprise and government customers central to its strategy.

What happened

The 29 October announcement named Schwarz Group as lead investor. Participants include Bell Ventures, Bullhound Capital, Inovia Capital, NVIDIA, Prosperity7 Ventures and the Government of Canada.

The target would imply a C$35.7 billion valuation. Cohere did not disclose how much had been secured at the initial close, so the full C$7 billion cannot be described as raised.

Funding is intended for frontier enterprise models, products tailored to regulated industries and long-term compute infrastructure. Cohere also reported 165% year-over-year annual recurring revenue growth at the end of Q3.

Why it matters

Regulated customers must consider data location, access controls and deployment arrangements alongside model quality. Cohere is building around those requirements, with strategic investors that bring infrastructure and distribution interests.

The bigger picture

The opportunity is to turn sovereignty requirements into paying demand for a complete enterprise AI offering. The next financing milestone is the completed round; the commercial test is whether customer adoption can support the substantial cost of models and compute.
