Cognition hits $48B after $2B AI coding round

Cognition has raised $2 billion at a $48 billion valuation as investors continue to back multiple winners in AI coding.

Cognition hits $48B after $2B AI coding round

Cognition’s latest round shows investors still believe the AI coding market can support several enormous companies rather than collapsing quickly into a single winner.

What happened

Cognition raised $2 billion at a $48 billion valuation. The financing included Andreessen Horowitz, Accel, Founders Fund, General Catalyst and Avenir. The company, best known for its coding agent Devin, says its annualised revenue run rate has grown rapidly since its previous financing.

Why it matters

AI coding has become one of the clearest commercial use cases for generative AI. The new valuation suggests investors are willing to keep funding several competing platforms despite intense pressure from frontier-model companies and established developer tools.

The bigger picture

The next phase of AI coding may be less about who has the best standalone assistant and more about who owns enterprise workflows, developer distribution and the economics of running increasingly autonomous coding agents.
