Claude connects to bank accounts with read-only Personal Finance

Claude’s latest feature lets users ask questions about the money in their connected accounts.

What happened

Anthropic announced Personal Finance in Claude, with bank and credit-card connections through Plaid. The feature begins rolling out in beta to Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US.

Access is read-only. Claude can analyse balances and transactions, but cannot move, manage or invest users’ money.

Why it matters

Account access gives the assistant information to work from when explaining spending patterns or upcoming bills. Users still need a way to inspect the transactions behind an answer, particularly when a calculation affects a financial decision.

The bigger picture

Financial assistants are taking different approaches to permissions. This release concentrates on understanding account activity. Its usefulness will depend on accurate analysis, understandable explanations and clear control over which accounts are connected.
