CivilGrid Raises $26M for Underground Maps

The physical buildout of AI, energy and housing depends on a surprisingly basic question: what is already underground?

What happened

CivilGrid raised a $26M Series A led by Spark Capital, with backing from Afore, A*, Ford Street Ventures, SNR and Energy Impact Partners.

The company builds a “Google Maps for what’s underground,” bundling utility, property and environmental-regulation data for governments, utilities and civil engineering firms.

Why it matters

This is a strong infrastructure-software signal. Construction, grid upgrades, data centres and utility work all face delays when teams do not know where underground assets are.

Better infrastructure data can reduce utility strikes, shorten permitting and planning cycles, and make physical projects less risky.

The bigger picture

AI infrastructure is not only data centres and chips. It also requires cables, substations, cooling, roads, power lines and construction.

CivilGrid’s round points to a quieter software category: tools that make the physical world more legible, so infrastructure projects can move faster and with fewer surprises.
