China’s AI chip prices rise as memory becomes the bottleneck
Chinese AI-chip makers are reportedly raising accelerator prices as high-bandwidth memory shortages push up production costs.

The AI hardware bottleneck is spreading beyond GPUs into the memory needed to keep those processors fed with data.
What happened
Chinese AI-chip companies including Huawei and Cambricon have reportedly raised pricing for current or upcoming accelerators as high-bandwidth memory becomes more expensive and harder to source.
Why it matters
HBM is essential for high-performance AI systems. Tight supply raises costs for domestic Chinese accelerators at the same time demand for alternatives to Nvidia is increasing.
The bigger picture
AI infrastructure is a supply-chain system, not a single-chip market. Memory, packaging, interconnects and power can all become constraints even when accelerator capacity itself expands.
