Cathedral raises $160M for military cyber AI

A newly formed national-security startup has reached unicorn status before publicly demonstrating a product. Cathedral’s financing is a strong signal of how aggressively investors are pricing access, talent and expected government demand in defence technology.

Cathedral raised $160 million at a reported $1.4 billion valuation. Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital led the round and each received a board seat.

The company was founded by former US government technology staff with experience across the Department of Government Efficiency, the Pentagon and other federal institutions. Cathedral intends to build AI software and dedicated computing infrastructure for national-security cyber programmes.

Detailed product information, customer contracts and performance evidence have not been disclosed. The company is reportedly considering either acquiring data-centre capacity or partnering with an infrastructure provider so it can operate systems in a controlled environment.
