Breye Raises €67.5M for Retinal Disease Drugs
Breye Therapeutics has raised an oversubscribed €67.5 million Series A to advance an oral treatment for retinal disease.

Breye Therapeutics has raised an unusually large Series A to advance a treatment strategy that could make some retinal disease therapies less invasive.
What happened
The Copenhagen-based biotech closed an oversubscribed €67.5 million Series A, co-led by Mission BioCapital and Novo Holdings.
The financing will advance danegaptide into a Phase 2 trial for non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy and support additional retinal-disease programmes.
Why it matters
Retinal diseases are often treated with injections into the eye, which can be effective but burdensome for patients.
Breye is developing an oral therapy, creating the possibility of a much easier treatment experience if the clinical data support its approach.
The round is also notable because the company is already moving into Phase 2 development rather than remaining at the discovery stage.
The bigger picture
Biotech investors continue to concentrate capital around programmes that have a clear clinical path and differentiated patient benefit.
For Breye, the commercial opportunity is tied not only to efficacy but to route of administration.
If an oral therapy can achieve meaningful outcomes in a disease area dominated by injections, convenience itself can become a competitive advantage.
The next major value inflection will therefore come from clinical evidence rather than platform claims.
