Ayar Labs adds $150M for optical AI interconnects
Ayar Labs added $150M in financing to scale optical connectivity technology that targets one of the biggest bottlenecks inside large AI clusters.

AI clusters are becoming too large for electrical connectivity alone to move data efficiently between thousands of accelerators.
What happened
Ayar Labs secured an additional $150M, bringing primary capital raised during 2026 to $650M. The financing will support product development, manufacturing readiness, high-volume production and a new Bengaluru design centre. Ayar develops co-packaged optical interconnects designed to move data between chips using light rather than conventional electrical links.
Why it matters
As AI systems scale, the bottleneck increasingly moves from raw compute toward communication between processors. Optical links can increase bandwidth while reducing power consumption and distance constraints inside large clusters.
The bigger picture
The AI hardware stack is broadening beyond GPUs. Networking, memory, photonics and cooling are becoming strategic categories of their own as data centres try to build larger systems without hitting power and bandwidth limits.
