Applied Optoelectronics Raises $600M for AI Connectivity
Applied Optoelectronics completed a $600M equity offering to expand optical connectivity capacity for AI data centres.

AI infrastructure demand is putting pressure on the networking and connectivity layers that sit around GPUs.
What happened
Applied Optoelectronics completed a $600M at-the-market equity offering, selling about 5.7 million shares at an average price of $105.36. The company said proceeds will support demand for high-speed optical connectivity in AI data centres and expand manufacturing capacity.
The financing is from a public company rather than a private startup round, but it is directly tied to AI data-centre infrastructure demand.
Why it matters
AI clusters need more than accelerators. They require optical components, high-speed links and manufacturing capacity that can move data efficiently across increasingly large compute systems.
This capital raise shows that the AI buildout is reaching suppliers beyond cloud providers and chipmakers. Connectivity companies are also being pulled into the infrastructure race.
The bigger picture
The AI capex cycle is broadening into a full industrial supply chain. Power, cooling, interconnects, optical modules and data-centre networking are becoming investable bottlenecks as model training and inference scale.
