Apple Turns Siri Into Desktop AI Assistant
Apple expands Siri across macOS with deeper context from windows, files, messages and system-level productivity tools.

Apple is turning Siri into a more deeply integrated desktop assistant with macOS 27 Golden Gate, bringing the assistant closer to the system-level context promised by the current wave of AI productivity tools.
What happened
The upgraded Siri can use onscreen content, files, emails and messages as context, work through Spotlight, rewrite text and answer questions about active windows. Apple is also extending Visual Intelligence and AI-powered capabilities across Safari and the broader operating system.
Why it matters
Standalone AI productivity tools often need users to upload documents or grant broad permissions before they become useful. Apple can integrate directly with the operating system, giving Siri access to context across applications while controlling the underlying permission model.
That creates a structural distribution advantage if the assistant becomes reliable enough.
The bigger picture
AI assistants are moving from separate chat applications toward operating-system layers. Apple, Microsoft and Google increasingly want AI to sit between users and every application. That could pressure independent productivity startups whose differentiation depends mainly on observing the same desktop context.
