Apate Raises A$11.4M for Anti-Scam AI
Apate.AI raised A$11.4M to use conversational AI bots against scam operations.

Fraud is becoming more automated, and defensive AI is starting to fight attackers on their own communication channels.
What happened
Australian startup Apate.AI raised an A$11.4M seed round, equivalent to about $8.15M, led by Lobby Capital.
The round also included OIF Ventures, Investible, Concept Ventures and Baobab Ventures. The company uses conversational AI bots to engage scammers, waste attacker time and gather intelligence from scam conversations.
Why it matters
This is a sharp cybersecurity item. Scam operations are increasingly cross-border, automated and hard for traditional enforcement to disrupt quickly.
Apate.AI’s approach is defensive deception: instead of only blocking scams after detection, it tries to absorb attacker effort and extract patterns that can help identify future fraud.
The bigger picture
Cybersecurity is moving from passive detection toward active response. As attackers use automation, defenders are using AI to create scalable countermeasures across fraud, phishing, social engineering and abuse workflows.
