The goal is to create a more consistent way for AI agents to interact with instruments, machines and hardware systems, rather than leaving every lab or factory to build one-off integrations.
Why it matters
This is a physical-AI infrastructure signal, not just another model feature. If AI agents are going to help in labs, factories and robotics environments, they need safe and repeatable ways to control tools in the real world.
That is a different problem from generating text or code. Physical systems involve latency, permissions, safety boundaries, measurement errors and real consequences if a system behaves unexpectedly.
The bigger picture
