Amazon backs Qualcomm's push into AI data centres
Amazon has struck a long-term agreement that could see it buy up to $60 billion of Qualcomm AI data-centre chips and related products.

Qualcomm has landed a potentially transformative customer as it tries to expand far beyond smartphones and into AI infrastructure.
What happened
Amazon struck a long-term agreement that could see it buy up to $60 billion of Qualcomm AI data-centre chips and related products. Qualcomm also granted Amazon warrants worth roughly $4 billion, and the companies plan to work together on optical connectivity for AI infrastructure.
Why it matters
A large hyperscaler commitment gives Qualcomm much stronger credibility in a market dominated by Nvidia and a small number of specialised chip suppliers. It also gives Amazon another route to diversify the hardware behind its AI infrastructure.
The bigger picture
The AI chip market is broadening into a strategic supplier race. Cloud companies increasingly want more control over cost, supply and architecture rather than relying on one accelerator ecosystem for every workload.
