Altera Prepares $2B-Plus Chip IPO
Altera is preparing an IPO that could raise more than $2B as chip assets return to public-market attention.

Programmable-chip maker Altera is preparing an initial public offering that could raise more than $2B.
What happened
The Intel- and Silver Lake-backed company has reportedly selected Barclays, Citi, JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley as underwriters. The size and timing remain under preparation and could change before a formal listing.
Why it matters
Altera makes programmable chips used across data centres, industrial systems, telecoms and defence. Those markets are benefiting from renewed interest in specialised computing as AI and edge workloads create demand beyond standard CPUs and GPUs.
The bigger picture
A successful listing would be another test of whether public markets are reopening for large semiconductor and AI-infrastructure assets. It would also provide a valuation benchmark for programmable-chip businesses at a time when compute infrastructure is attracting unusually strong investor attention.
