What happened
Alethio Therapeutics completed a $90m (£67m) Series A, co-led by Sofinnova Partners and RA Capital, with backing from Oxford Science Enterprises and others.
The round will support Phase 1/2a development of ATX-011 for essential thrombocythaemia, a blood cancer, and additional programmes for related diseases. The treatments remain experimental.
Why it matters
A targeted approach could offer another option for patients whose disease is poorly controlled by existing treatments. That possibility still needs to be tested through safety and efficacy studies in people.
The bigger picture
Clinical development turns a biological hypothesis into evidence. Alethio’s next milestones concern trial readiness and results, rather than the size of the round. The financing supports that work; it does not establish that the drug will succeed.
