AegisAI raises $36M for agentic email security
Former Google security executives are building AI agents to investigate increasingly personalised phishing attacks.

Phishing is becoming harder to catch because generative AI can produce convincing, personalised messages at industrial scale. AegisAI is betting that email security now needs investigators, not just filters.
What happened
AegisAI raised a $36M Series A led by Battery Ventures, with Accel and Foundation Capital participating. The financing brings its total capital raised to $49M.
The company was founded by former Google security executives. Its platform uses AI agents to examine incoming emails, attachments, sender behaviour and impersonation signals in context. Rather than relying mainly on fixed rules or known malicious signatures, the system attempts to reason about whether a message fits the normal relationship and activity patterns around a recipient.
AegisAI says it has dozens of customers, including Mesh, LangChain and Lokker.
Why it matters
Traditional phishing defences work well when attacks reuse known domains, wording or malware. Generative AI allows criminals to produce more varied messages, imitate individual writing styles and personalise attacks using publicly available information.
That creates demand for systems capable of investigating each message more like a human analyst. The challenge is doing so without blocking legitimate communication or generating another layer of noisy alerts.
The bigger picture
Cybersecurity is becoming one of the clearest markets where AI strengthens both attackers and defenders. Email remains especially important because it connects employees to credentials, payment requests and sensitive internal systems.
AegisAI enters a competitive market that includes Abnormal Security, Proofpoint, Mimecast and newer AI-native vendors. Its long-term advantage will depend on detection quality, integration and whether customers trust autonomous systems to intervene in business communication.
