1Password launches identity controls for AI agents
1Password introduces controls that let authorised AI agents sign into services without seeing users’ passwords.

What happened
1Password introduced 1Password for Agents, a trust layer designed to let authorised AI agents authenticate to services without directly seeing or storing a user’s password. Organisations can grant, monitor and revoke agent access from a central system.
Why it matters
Credentials are a practical barrier to useful agents. An assistant cannot complete meaningful work without access to the required systems, but copying passwords into an agent creates security and accountability risks. Dedicated controls could give agents scoped permissions and auditable identities.
The bigger picture
The agent economy will require infrastructure beyond smarter models. Identity, payments and observability are becoming a new software layer around automated action. The product fits that shift, although its security and performance claims remain company-reported and require careful testing in real workflows.
