What happened
German energytech company 1KOMMA5° reached a $1.35 billion valuation in its latest financing and outlined plans to invest over €100 million in its Heartbeat AI platform in 2027. The company's business connects household electrification equipment—including solar generation and batteries—with energy-management software. Heartbeat aims to automate decisions about power use, storage and electricity trading, as well as related customer processes. The company has also discussed potential expansion into the US and the possibility of a future public listing. The amount of capital newly raised was not disclosed, so the valuation should not be confused with financing proceeds.
Why it matters
Distributed solar and battery systems have greater value when their operation responds to prices, household demand and grid conditions rather than following fixed schedules. An integrated software layer can improve the economics of electrification and create revenue beyond the initial sale or installation of hardware.
The bigger picture
This is part of a wider shift toward software-defined energy systems and virtual power plants, where many relatively small assets act together as a flexible resource. The opportunity depends on market rules, customer participation and the actual financial performance of optimisation systems. A high valuation is a market signal, not proof those outcomes have already been delivered.
